An important step was taken on 10 February 2020 as, following their election by the TAFISA General Assembly in November 2019, the Malaysian Sports for All Council (MASFA), Sarawak Ministry for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sport, and Sarawak Sports Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TAFISA and officially announced the hosting of the 1st TAFISA Asian Sport for All Games 2022 in Kuching City, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The Honourable Yb Datuk Haji Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sport, shared his pride that “Kuching will fall in the list of being the pioneer to organise the 1st TAFISA Asian Sport for All Games, where hundreds of traditional and cultural physical sports events will be organised. Unlike normal sports events which are very competitive and involve only the young, this is something which has elements of tradition, culture and friendship which are part of Sarawak's identity. This is the reason why we bid for it and I'm happy we can bring it to our shores.” The event will go together with the organisation of the 1st Asian Mayors’ Summit on Active Living.

For TAFISA’s Official Representative Finn Berggren, the signing of the MoU “represents a historic moment where, for the first time, the organisation of the TAFISA Asian Sport for All Games has been agreed. Kuching City, Sarawak, located on Borneo Island, Malaysia, will be the most wonderful host where history, culture, traditions and diversity fully align with the values of the TAFISA Games.”
TAFISA looks forward to working with MASFA, the State of Sarawak and Kuching City to make a successful event. Stay tuned as more information will be shared in the coming months.
