In the heart of the American continent lies the small town of San Marcos, which has recently been declared by the Honduras legislature as the country's National Capital of Traditional Sport and Games. San Marcos is the seat of “Mi Tierra Catracha”, an association inspiring kids and adults in their community and beyond to play together.
Mi Tierra Catracha has been sharing their traditional games with the TAFISA family since 2008 when they participated in the TAFISA World Sport for All Games in Busan, Korea. They also joined the Games of Siauliai 2012 and Jakarta 2016, and will join Lisbon 2020 next year.
In 2019, San Marcos and Mi Tierra Catracha will host the “XX National Festival of Traditional Games and Food” inviting all kids younger than 110 to come and take part in an experience bringing together the whole family to play and enjoy being physically active. The festival will take place from 3rd to 5th May and will feature an opening parade, exhibitions and tryouts of Latin American games, and a celebration night with traditional dances.
