After two years of proceedings in the case opposing the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) vs TAFISA, the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) has taken its decision. The CAS has confirmed that the decision from the TAFISA General Assembly to cancel the hosting of the 8th TAFISA World Sport for All Games 2024 in Nizhny-Novgorod, Russia, was the correct and only possible decision. The CAS also concludes that the ROC has no responsibility in the Games\' cancellation that is due to force majeure. The CAS has ordered TAFISA to transfer to the ROC more than EUR 500,000 corresponding to the licence fee payments for the event plus annual interest rate. TAFISA takes note of the CAS decision and will comply.
The TAFISA Board of Directors and office would like to emphasize that they have always taken all steps in accordance with the decisions from the TAFISA General Assembly, and in alignment with our values and the interest of all our members and stakeholders. It was impossible to proceed with the organization of an event which was meant to stand for peace, inclusion, and friendship, in line with the values of TAFISA.
Our purpose as an organization is to create a better world through Sport for All, and we intend to continue focusing on that in 2025 and beyond.
