It is with shock and great sadness that TAFISA mourns the sudden passing away of Moira-Meree Rodan, TAFISA's Vice-President for Oceania, who was just elected at the just concluded TAFISA General Assembly in May, Prague, Czech Republic.
Our deepest condolences go to her family, friends and colleagues.
Moira was a passionate advocate of Sport for All and served for many years as Fiji National Sports Commission's (FNSC) Research & Development Manager. Under her leadership, Fiji hosted various TAFISA capacity-building initiatives in recent years, including the UNESCO-supported Women Leadership in Sport for All workshop, as well as the Girls Positive and Safe Coaching Pathway and, in 2025, TAFISA's Certified Leadership Course in Sport for All.
Moira contributed to inspiring Fijians and citizens of the Pacific Islands to be more active and create a better world through Sport for All. She was the Sports Chairperson of the Melanesian Spearhead Group and a Member of the National Action Plan against Violence on Women and Girls. In Fiji, her work focused on strengthening participation pathways, aligning sport policy with national development priorities, and ensuring accountability and measurable impact in publicly funded sport programmes.
She shared with close friends her pride to be elected TAFISA Vice-President and had the ambition to "expand TAFISA's engagement in Small Island Developing States and emerging regions, particularly across the Pacific, where Sport for All initiatives can drive significant social, health, and community outcomes." Her wish was to "actively contribute to TAFISA by sharing Pacific regional insights, strengthening knowledge exchange, and promoting collaborative approaches between national federations, community stakeholders, and international partners." Moira was particularly interested in "supporting initiatives related to inclusive participation, governance reform, and measurable impact systems." Her motivation was deeply "rooted in a strong belief that small island developing states like Fiji must actively engage in global sport networks to strengthen capacity, share regional perspectives, and adopt best practice models."
TAFISA will dearly miss Moira, who has passed away too early, but her wish and ambition are ones we will continually work towards.
Our sympathy and thoughts go out to all her loved ones. Together, we will do our best to remember her and build on her legacy.
