On 03 December, TAFISA hosted a webinar on; For a Sustainable Approach: Developing the Fundraising Readiness of Sport for All Organizations. This event, fourth in the new Mission 2030 Series cycle, attracted attendees from around the globe, with over 180 participants, and featured participation from leading organizations, fundraising professionals, and experienced experts in the field. Their involvement elevated the discussion, highlighting how fundraising is relevant for many organizations to be able to scale their initiatives.

The invited speakers, guided by moderator Gaëtan Garcia, engaged with the topic. Luke Southall from Remedy set the tone by opening the session with an introduction to fundraising readiness and the structures organizations need in place to be fundraising-ready. He discussed how organizations can build fundraising assets and how they can be utilized.

The panel discussions during the webinar were highly engaging, featuring valuable insights from our panelists: Lindsey Kittredge of Shooting Touch, Dato' Sarjit Singh Sekhon from the Malaysian Leisure & Recreation Council (MARFIMA), and Jess Shepherdson from REMEDY. The panelists shared key perspectives on the importance of measurable outcomes, transparency, robust governance structures, impact assessment, and the power of storytelling to enhance visibility to donors.

The session also included two impactful case study presentations. Khushal Palicha from the ITTF Foundation shared insights from an organization experienced in fundraising, highlighting how ITTF Foundation successfully leveraged collaboration to strengthen its fundraising efforts. He emphasized the vital role that partnerships and collaborative platforms play in resource mobilization. David Groves from Laureus Sport for Good provided the perspective of a grant application reviewer, identifying common pitfalls in grant applications and offering practical advice for crafting successful proposals. He outlined key elements funders typically prioritize, including safeguarding, governance, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, methodology, and inclusivity.

Following the case study presentation, Luke Southhall from REMEDY introduced the proposed fundraising training initiative under the SUCCEED framework. For more details about SUCCEED, click here.

The interactive breaks added a dynamic element to the session, providing an opportunity for participants to share their thoughts. Key challenges identified by the audience included limited access to funders and a lack of fundraising expertise. Participants also highlighted storytelling, training, and partnerships as areas they would like to prioritize in their organizations’ fundraising strategies.

This webinar marked a significant step forward in fostering dialogue around fundraising strategies in Sport for All
