The Global Active City Development Project is led by TAFISA and Evaleo, with the support of the IOC, and in partnership with Liverpool Active City, since 2015. It aims to establish a labelling and certification scheme based on an ISO-compatible standard, thus accrediting Active Cities that are doing a wondrous job worldwide.

While the standard and guidelines will be published and applications for accreditation will open to all cities in June 2017, 7 municipalities have joined the Global Active City Pilot Project in 2016:

Active City ‘initial diagnoses’ were piloted in all participating cities, and kick-off and concluding workshops were held in Liverpool (February 2016) and Lausanne (November 2016). Those cities will now continue their work to reach accreditation during 2017.

Further services, such as training opportunities to reach accreditation, will be developed and offered from June 2017.
