A high-level delegation from the Shanghai Administration of Sport (SAS) visited the TAFISA Headquarters on 2 June 2026 to discuss pathways to become a Global Active City.
Welcomed by TAFISA Secretary General Jean-Francois Laurent, the delegation was led by SAS First Level Inspector Ms. Song Hui, who was joined by Mr. Gui Jinsong, SAS Chief of the Mass Sports Department, Mr. Zhang Haobin, Director of the Shanghai Leisure Sports and Sports Event Management Centre, Mr. Xu Weimin, Director of the Shanghai Wushu Institute, and Ms. Zhou Wenjia, SAS Deputy Director of Office.
The meeting focused on the following:
- How to join forces to promote and develop Sport for All programmes and activities,
- How to enhance the international influence and appeal of Sport for All,
- Exploring implementation pathways for Shanghai to become a Global Active City,
- Reflecting on good practice examples from other municipalities worldwide, which could be of interest to Shanghai,
- Identifying ways to tap into the comprehensive value of sports in urban renewal and in the integration of commerce, tourism, culture and sports.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Letter of Intent for cooperation.
The Shanghai Administration of Sport is the competent sports authority of Shanghai Municipality and aims to accelerate Shanghai's development into a world-renowned sports city, deeply implementing the Chinese national fitness strategy and attaching great importance to the unique role of sports in promoting health, social inclusion and sustainable development.
