AUSC Region 5 reshapes the future of sport

In a week-long forum that began on September 27, 2023, the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 has united to review its mid-term Strategic Plan. Held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Livingstone, Zambia, this event reflects their dedication to progress, innovation, and collaboration. Esteemed council members have come together to assess achievements, overcome challenges, and chart the course for the future of sports in Southern Africa.

The gathering brought together over 70 delegates from diverse stakeholders across Region 5, including African and international participants. They came together to review the performance of the 2018-2028 Strategic Plan with a focus on expediting the achievement of established objectives. This mid-term assessment is particularly relevant in light of significant global developments, notably the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sports landscape globally and regionally.

During this event, Ms. Keenese Katisenge-Tizhani, the TAFISA Vice President-Africa, took the stage to share insights into the TAFISA Mission 2030. Through her presentation, she has unveiled TAFISA's visionary manifesto, "For a Better World Through Sport for All," which serves as a compass guiding the global strategy to combat physical inactivity on a worldwide scale. This comprehensive roadmap not only supports the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also harnesses the transformative power of Sport for All. Within this comprehensive roadmap, there are 12 transformative themes, each showcasing how Sport for All has the potential to create a better and brighter world for the next generation. It aims to contribute to solving the multifarious challenges of our time through the promotion of inclusive and accessible sports opportunities.

This gathering of the AUSC Region 5 represents a significant step forward in advancing the mission of sport and physical activity for all individuals in Southern Africa. The collaboration between AUSC Region 5 and TAFISA promises to bring positive change and greater access to sports and physical activity, aligning with the vision of a healthier and better world through Sport for All.
