From Monday 2 August to Wednesday 1 September 2021, the Sport for All Federation (SFA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the region’s inaugural IOC-supported TAFISA Certified Leadership Course (CLC). The course took place twice per week across five weeks and was held online due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The TAFISA CLC is an internationally accredited course, equipping current and would-be Sport for All practitioners with relevant skills and competencies to succeed as sports leaders and managers. The SFA invited sports sector professionals from across Saudi Arabia to learn and discover the Global Sport for All Movement through the experiences and teachings of global experts. The 50 participants came from a range of sports-related roles, including administrators and managers of sports organisations, government and public authority officials, Olympic Committee team members, NGOs, board members, and volunteers.

The CLC was moderated by Professor Anneliese Goslin, Emeritus Professor at the University of Pretoria, and Mr Finn Berggren, TAFISA Special Advisor and Gerlev International Advisor, and attended by international guest speakers such as Mr Peter Barendse – TAFISA Board member and TAFISA Europe Chair - Mr Stanley Mutoya – CEO of the African Union Sports Council Region 5 – Mr Wolfgang Baumann, TAFISA Secretary General, and Ms Keri McDonald – TAFISA Business Development and Fundraising Manager. A wide range of topics were covered, including Programme & Event Management, Marketing, Communications & Relations, Strategy Development, Volunteerism, and more.

Throughout the five weeks, participants were split into smaller working groups and asked to create a Sport for All initiative (programme, event, campaign, etc.) based on the course’s teachings. During the final session on Wednesday 1 September, each group gave a presentation of their initiative in front of the other attendees and lecturers, with each participant then being awarded a CLC certificate. This was immediately followed by the official closing ceremony attended by HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud - President of the SFA, Ms Shaima Saleh AlHusseini - Managing Director of the SFA and Ms Catherine Forde, TAFISA Vice President.

TAFISA wishes to extend congratulations to all participants and a special thanks to SFA for hosting a successful CLC.
