The programme, funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation, aims to bring physical activity back to all citizens through the use of open spaces – in festivals, events, games, play and the everyday life – and educate community leaders to build a brighter future through physical activity.
...is designed for national and local organisations, municipalities, communities and citizens who wish to tackle the deadly epidemic of inactivity by combining their local effort with a global commitment, thus striving to build a common voice for the benefit of the generations of tomorrow.
#TakeBackYourStreets is the concept driving the movement. It encourages outdoor, car-free events in public and open spaces, prompting citizens to develop a daily habit of being physically active in the urban setting. #TakeBackYourStreets encompasses all those TAFISA programmes that take people to the streets in physical activity and play.
Existing events that are making use of public and open spaces are encouraged to join the programme and promote the inclusion of physical activity into the daily life of their citizens.
Register your event with TAFISA and it will be featured on the #TakeBackYourStreets Calendar of Events.
What’s more, you will receive TAFISA patronage and label for qualifying events. If your event is successful, it could even receive the #TakeBackYourStreets Award!
Join the movement, apply for patronage and contact the TAFISA Office.
To encourage and support the inclusion of physical activity in the daily lives of people, stakeholders in Sport for All and municipality services linked to the urban setting need to become aware of the challenge of physical inactivity and understand the role they can assume in fixing the problem.
To this end, #TakeBackYourFuture encompasses the TAFISA programmes that aim to educate, train and raise awareness to more efficiently combat the crisis of physical inactivity.
This includes the #TakeBackYourFuture Workshops, a two-day training programme for key local stakeholders, decision makers, managers and community leaders to foster their understanding of the untapped potential and benefits of open and public spaces and becoming an Active City.
To host a #TakeBackYourFuture! Workshop, or for more information, contact the TAFISA office.
If you already organise physical activity event(s) in public and open spaces, register your event(s) to receive programme patronage and become a part of the global movement. Examples of events include:
Contact the TAFISA office to learn more about hosting this two-day workshop based on the Active City concept. Together with experts from TAFISA and Liverpool John Moore University, local stakeholders identify the challenges they are facing and build strategies to tackle those issues using resources at their fingertips.
TAFISA offers many events and programmes open to members, municipalities and all people to kick-start their involvement in the global Sport for All and physical activity movement. Click on the logos above, or see TAFISA Programmes and Events.
Public and open spaces are where we grow up, discover the world, make friends, have fun, spend family and leisure time and later in life commute to school, university and work.
They are the very essence of community life and have the intrinsic potential to offer opportunities to be active.
#TakeBackYourStreets…TakeBackYourFuture! is about maximising their potential.
All events registered in the #TakeBackYourStreets calendar will automatically be in the running for TAFISA #TakeBackYourStreets! Awards for outstanding action, presented at the TAFISA World Congress or other prestigious event.
