The cooperation between TAFISA and the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 has been strengthened further with the signing of an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding. This significant milestone was commemorated during the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII) held in Baku.
The cooperation between TAFISA and AUSC Region 5 is built on a shared vision to promote Sport for All and physical activity participation within the AUSC Region 5 Member Countries. With the extension this vital partnership, both organisations are committed to achieving a set of broad goals to further enhance the Sport for All Movement across the region. The goals outlined by TAFISA and AUSC Region 5 include building capacities through training and development of Sport for All agents of social change in societies, and creating more robust platform for Sport for All activities and programmes, particularly those related to gender equality within AUSC Region 5 Member Countries. The cooperation further seeks to streamline and integrate Sport for All and Physical Activity as integral components of AUSC Region 5's policies and activities.
The African Union Sport Council Region 5 (AUSC Region 5) is the sports division of the African Union. The main aim of the AUSC is to utilise sports to achieve peace, integration and unity in Africa i.e. sport as a powerful humanitarian tool to bring people together irrespective of colour, gender, economic status, social class and political standing. AUSC Region 5 serves its members and stakeholders in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) by encouraging and promoting innovative development of inclusive sport and recreation at all levels, through partnerships and collaborations to promote athlete excellence.
